Cabernet Franc is the parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and is especially important in Bordeaux blends. France is the largest producer of Cabernet Franc, and notable single-varietal Cabernet Franc wines can be found from the Loire Valley.
TASTING NOTES
The appellation Chinon (Touraine, Loire Valley) might be very well known for red wine crafted from Cabernet Franc; this is also the royal city of the French legacy character – François Rabelais.
The monks started the vineyard cultivation in the 4th century, brought in agricultural and viticultural techniques, and of course, Cabernet Franc! Chinon is a red wine full of charisma - full-bodied, structured, loaded with blackcurrant, a touch of leafy aroma and powdery tannins. No wonder it is traditionally known as "The wine of the Kings." King Henri II Plantagenet, King Philippe Auguste and King Charles VII are huge fans.
